Sony Vegas be trippin'

Do all effects plugins cost money? I mean im not going to drop $550 on something that is going to costs thousands just to use it for what i want. of course i could get after affects for $2000 or what ever it is currently running for, but even that needs plugins to be amazing. But back to Sony Vegas, I havent bought it yet, and the only thing that looks good in vanilla is 720p renders instead of 1080p from windows movie maker for faster uploads and renders themselves. Of course it does have quite a few things over windows movie maker, but not many that i will actually use. Not to mention that in the trial, i noticed that it crashes when movies over 3.5gb are so much as dragged over the interface. So I cant find any free plugins, can you? If so please tell me of them :D

yes, i was hoping to use it for special effects instead of after effects (which is made for special affects) but sony vegas is 4x the price. I now see why. But even sony vegas has more expensive plugins too.
