Going for the permit to purchase and own a firearm from the police department costs 72€ - it's dirt cheap, compared to the prices of decent firearms anyway. All hobbies cost money, some more than the others.

Actually it is expensive. On top of the gun, club payments and permission you have to buy a safe/gun cabinet for the weapon. Of course i could "forget" to buy one, but if i'd get caught the police would probably take the gun until i buy one, and give me a ticket. And now that there's been a shooting in Hyvinkää, getting a gun legally will probably be even more difficult. Buying the gun from the Russian mafia will probably be cheaper, and definitely easier.

I think the M16 is probably more accurate and things, but the AK-47 might not jam as much or something. I do not really know, I haven't used either of them before. My brother said that the M16A2 does not have much more recoil than a Ruger .22, and is pretty light and stuff. I will probably buy an AR-15 next year, or maybe just get something like a Maverick 88

Well, the other expenses are in the order of ~4-500 euros for a legal cabinet AND permit costs. Judging by what you've been saying on the course of this thread, you'd probably be looking at a 7.62 platform - a cheapshit SAR-1 will set you back ~600-800 new, a saiga around 1200 and a decent used sako 92S for about ~3000. .223 self-reloaders go for around 1500-2500 + customization equipment, if any. What I'm getting at is, the actual expenses of getting a permit are not that high compared to the actual firearm. Then again, .223 Rem is expensive as duck compared to surplus 7.62x39.

All hobbies cost something.

Yup, i wasn't saying it is (or should be) free, i said it is ridiculously hard and expensive to get one. Compared to a an AR, the cabinet is actually cheap, but if you'd want something like a 10mm pistol, it'd cost more. Depending on your pistol of choice, naturally.

Agreed. That is the most bias thing I've ever watched.

Well I'm glad to see some people favour the M16 more.

Well, I can't really say either one is better than the other. I have to say, they both are AMAZING rifles in their own ways. The AK wins in stopping power and reliability, and the M16 wins in range and being easier to carry because of it's smaller round.
So I'm just gonna go with draw.

Well, if you mean easier to carry in weight, I agree, but the AK-47 is a bit shorter than the M16.

So... necrobump.

Anyway, what about the newer guns? Like, AK-12 vs M4A1, or the possible sucessor of the M4A1, the HK416?
