Varar is a Salgovae, darker skinned, and not as tattoed as his comrades tend to be. He is extremely biased towards his own kind and dislikes any opposition against his beliefs. He dreams of marriage and wishes to start his own tribe. He also wants to put his Latin skills to good use. He learned Latin by the Roman Texts of the Capreae escape he found at a shipwreck on the coast while hunting. He wishes more to farm and spend time with whatever family he will have rather then fight. But if he has opposition that he believes fighting is the only solution, then fight he will. He is a very agile and skilled fighter, one of the best with bows and spears of his kind. He developed his own fighting style after watching how wolves attack a much larger animal. They use the shadows to sneak up, them they lay an attack and retreat into darkness. He uses the "shadow technique". In his fighting. Hence, he got the nickname "The Shadow". The texts he found were of that of Varro Quadratus, whom he wishes to know much more about. But he doubts he will see any "Capreae-ians" as he calls them. He is also very skilled in the tongue of his native language, he can speak anyone over to his side by simply being himself and speaking his mind. He is very good at assuming control, and directing people. Although he keeps to himself, he tends to be very outgoing, and needs to meet everyone he sees.

His parents were of two Picts he never found the names to. He knows them simply as "MaMa". And " pa". He left home on his own at age 4, and vowed to never return. He knows only of his name, and how he wishes for more leadership.

Varars life was very difficult. He lived in makeshift tents because he was never taught the proper way to make a shelter or home. He is, however, very skilled in farming, fishing, and hunting. He cooks very well and wishes to serve a chief personally. He had a wolf as a pet, but the wolf was eventually reunited with his pack.

His family is North of the wall because they have always been there, before time of the northern regions were even recorded. They don't even know of the walls existence. They have always and will always live north of the wall.
