In the online users list ive seen google[bot] and msn[bot] so i was just wondering what they are and why they are here if anyone knows?

They collect data for those websites. If you've tested out admin controls on phpbb before, you would know that the Administrator Control Panel has a list of bots whose names will appear in gray so that they can be differentiated from real users.
