Is this a good laptop?

Postby Daniella » Tue Sep 18, 2012 1:47 am

Okay so a few days ago my brother stepped on my laptop which utterly destroyed it so I'm looking for a replacement. I don't know too much about hardware but I'm hoping some of you do.

I want something that is-

- A laptop
- Under $500
- At least 3.5 GHz (if that matters)
- 4 or more gigs of ram
- Under 10 pounds

http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satellite ... zons0d8-20
I was thinking about getting this since it's really good for the price but I wanted to know if there was anything better at around the same price range :D. Opinions? Suggestions?

Great idea!

Nothing in particular. Probably end up using it for games, homework and browsing lol. I just don't want to have to "upgrade" anytime soon.

Unless you're going to play those high-graphic high-PC stress games, then that's more than needed.

Depending on what games you are wanting to play, this laptop should be much more than enough.

you might want to look into the panasonic toughbooks or lenovo thinkpads, if you want a brother-proof laptop. My thinkpad X61 can take my stepping weight lid closed, I'm ~190 lbs.

That laptop should be good for basic stuff.

If you want to do serious gaming I suggest you get some more RAM and a better processor.

It's a quad core, though.

Thanks for all the replies!

I checked out the HP Pavillion g6 but they were all 500 - 600+...

And guys, I don't need a laptop that runs Skyrim on highest settings or anything. I don't play games like that, lol. If there are laptops that are great or good for gaming in the 500 and below price range then I would definitely like that more but it isn't a necessity.

Quad core doesn't mean it's 4x1.6GHz
