any tips for playin on a lap top ?

What do you mean by render distance? It doesn't matter what PC you have you can't change render distance. It's same for everyone. It's not like in minecraft. Because then people with better pc's would have unfair advantages.

This is really all there is to playing on a laptop. Playing just about any game is practically impossible without a mouse. If you've got a spare mouse lying around somewhere, just plug it into the USB port in the side of the laptop and you should be good to go. You can even use the one plugged into your desktop if you're not using it.

Performance-wise, you probably won't experience any problems. You will want to double check your laptop's resolution with the game's settings though, as some laptops use less common screen resolutions and running the game at the wrong resolution can have a negative impact on performance.
