Play minecraft without need for opengl aceleration!

Postby Frostified » Sun May 13, 2012 8:43 pm

Since i wanted to play minecraft again so desperately, yet my computer couldn't cath up with the opengl lust of the minecraft 1.8 update, I wanted to search the internet and see if anyone had found a way around the Opengl issue.
Today, I found that person:

You don't really need to watch the video, just check the description and follow the steps.
Have fun!
This will work with all upcoming versions of minecraft, and mods too.
the minecraft file is not the .jar btw, your minecraft files will be in .minecraft.

P.S
I am not 100% sure about this but I think this does not work on windows 7/8

My method:
Right click on desktop,
settings tab,
troubleshoot,
hardware acceleration,
middle slider option,
apply,
----,
profit.

No idea about windows 7 though.

But please note that this is not all fun and games (unless you think of minecraft as a game :), since the acceleration is just that - acceleration. Without that the game will use cpu instead of gpu, slowing the game down massively and causing major stutters. I have an old 1,8ghz laptop without opengl acceleration and it eats up 99% of my cpu and is in a playable framerate only when standing still...

I don't understand, isn't Minecraft one of the easiest games to run, or, at least, on a browser?

I mean, it runs on my Language/Social Studies teacher's school computer

Not always, because not all graphics cards support opengl acceleration and some aren't powerful enough to run without optifine graphics downgrade mod... There is a GREAT variety of pc's...

Also, Realm of Mad God, WOOT?

Minecraft is a bitch when you're trying to play it with a 1gb ram netbook.

I can imagine, but that netbook has better RAM than my desktop (256mb), so I wouldn't mind playing on a netbook.
