My mods have been having bad reviews they say that i am making to many variants (234) and am wonder if is it better to have more variants and have and ok gun or have an awesome looking gun with only a few variants please answer.

Lets say you take a crappy gun. And put 234 camos on. You now have 235 crappy guns. Now, lets say you have an amazing looking gun. But only 3 other variants. That makes 4 great guns. But the detail in that makes up for the lack of variants.

Detail > Variants
