Pivoting Trouble

I've just started making mods, I can make the actual guns at good quality, but the pivoting confuses me.
Is there a guide or can anyone offer help on it?

-when you select pivots from the menu, 3 boxes should appear in the bottom-left of slab6. Each box represents one dimension (X, Y or Z) in which you can change the position of the gun.
-mouse over one of the boxes, and use the up/down arrow keys to adjust pivots
