Mouse's Scope (1.1)

Postby FlyingPenguin » Sun Jan 22, 2012 2:56 am

Hey guys, as someone who goes out shooting from time to time with real guns I appreciate a decent scope graphic. Well, this isn't great, or modeled after anything in particular, but I've zeroed it to distance headshots (no more aiming for center mass to head hit!) and have been using it for a little while now. Suggestions on zeroing or changes to the graphic are welcome, I may make little adjustments and release in a pack containing options with enough support.
For now, here it is:

(Release Notes)
1.0: Vanilla!
1.1: Fixed the zero for max-range shooting a tad (1/22/12)

I guess I'll run up ahead and play designated idiot for awhile.

Looks nice. I like the cross hairs, and from what you say, probably has great accuracy. Might try it out.

I'll be honest, I don't play this game much, nor have I played for very long. So anyone anal enough to try it out and say "it's shooting a little high still" will be appreciated. I'm not sure how accurate the weapon is at far range anyway (which is what I'm attempting to zero it at). I'll re-release it with a version # every change/fix.

I think the exact aimpoint is in the direct center of the .png, so that'd be the 400,300 pixel.
I could be wrong, but that's how I've been making all my sights so far and it seems to be accurate.

Yes and no. Where it "fires" and where it "lands" are different, that is to say the hitboxes in this game are awful. When zeroing my goal is to make the zero compensate for the bad hitboxes. I don't know if this is an across-the-board experience, but I've noticed that to "headshot" I have to hit about collarbone with the rifle.

Well the rifle isn't 100% accurate like it used to be, it has a little bit of spread. I think the center pixel is the center of that average spread, but of course that doesn't mean your bullet will be going there every shot.

This is the center of the average spread ( as accurate as you can get in AoS)

So, I spent the night trying out Scope zero 1.1 and I found it to be just about dead on. I appreciate the expert info regarding accuracy and stuff, that will make it easier in the future. For now, it seems to be perfect for dealing with the funky hitboxes at distance. Try it out and let me know?

P.S. Comments on graphical style are welcome too!
