[TDM] [CTF] WoolCity

Postby Diaspora » Sun Aug 05, 2012 1:41 pm

Hello, Ace of Spades community!
I am Diaspora*, and my friends and me have made an Ace of Spades map in Minecraft.
I used eloreda's Minecraft to AOS converter. We primarily used wool to get the colors, so we named it WoolCity.

OVERVIEW (click for moar pics):
Image
(Rendered with Yourself's Isometric HTML5 Map Renderer)

SUMMARY:
The map consists of a little city filled with colorful cars, each house has its good and bad parts. There are also some secret tunnels, see if you can find them all!

INFO:
I struggled a bit with the spawn positions because I found no way of viewing my position in-game, so I ended up with a lot of trial-and-error. If there's a way of doing that, please point it out to me!
The map isn't fully finished yet, maybe I'll add a boundary box (which I didn't set because of the problem described above) and some other things.
The map was built by ->B.O.B.<-, Diaspora* (me), AlexeyPozn, KillerCookie, Isaac and Mittgfu.
I did the hosting and WorldEdit-/VoxelSniper-magic, so I'm somewhat involved in nearly every building. More detailed credits are in the slideshow.

NOTE: The map is available under a (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0) license. That means you can remix and use our map as long as you name "->B.O.B.<-, Diaspora*, AlexeyPozn, KillerCookie, Isaac, Mittgfu". This is done automatically by the server.
If you want to make your own map using ours, you can do so by naming us and publishing it under the same license. Please link to the forum thread, too. (It would also be nice if you would send me a PM so I can take a look at your map, but this is completely optional)

TL;DR: Here's the download link. BOOM-BOOM in little city made of wool.
EDIT: IMPROVED version by Dany0

Did I mention this is my first post?
I hope you have a lot of fun playing on this map, I would appreciate some feedback and improvement suggestions.

Definitely not. It was made with Ace of Spades in mind so all the doors are 3 high, the stairs are normally walkable and the windows have the right size, too. It's built in Minecraft, but not for Minecraft! :P

You can do this by loading your map in VoxEd. In the top left corner there is a readout with 3 numbers which resembles (xxx, xxx, xx) where x is a number. These are the x, y and z co-ordinates of the block your pointer is on. You can use these to position your spawns.

The map itself looks alright, and while these kinds of maps aren't really my preference, I can tell that you put a lot of effort into it. It's also nice to see you took the time to craft a map with AoS in mind, rather than just taking a Minecraft map and converting it.

Okay this map is gorgeous, but what surprises me though is how much effort you put in making the map, and how little into making the mapscripts... Sigh, I fixed the map txt, extracted some prefabs for the repository(viewtopic.php?f=69&t=1903), made a few edits(better road and wall colours, added moss on walls, made red base green, added prettier terrain around the town, recoloured some black to be able to be able to orient yourself in some places, added experimental lighting around the lamps on shining spawn bases, made fog a little brighter, made some pixel art stick out so that you can see it through the AoS ambient occlusion, and something else I forgot what, oh, I set up arena with no gates for it, and I didn't test the arena part, and it probably doesn't work)

Next time, visit #pyspades on Quakenet for help.

Thank you very much for making a remake, Dany0!
As this is our first map, we are glad it gets such positive feedback and even a wonderful remake by one of the major map makers for AoS only 1 day from posting it. The additions and edits are really nice, looks much better now. I have no idea of editing in Qubicle or Voxed, I only let it run through the converter which did all the lighting (rather poorly). I added the link to your post under the original download.
To the scripts: I know they're done really poorly, I really tried getting support in the pyspades IRC channels, but I got no response or all messages somehow magically failed to send (*sigh*).

So, thanks for doing this remake and thanks for keeping us as the authors in the map.txt file!
