Super Mario World map

Postby Beret » Mon Jan 16, 2012 2:33 am

This idea has come up before, but dammit it needs to happen, people! Image

Can't be that hard to convert, surely?

That's something I'd enjoy doing, but the nintendo spritesheet isn't the best =/ Anyone wanna team up with me to go 50/50 on the sprites?

This would be truly awesome up to scale.

Hopefully someone else can pick it up from here:

Not really that easy either. It's not like the map is actually in 3D or anything.

the one on the right would be enough. Problem is, you also need SMW sprites.

._.

You need the one on the left, as it is the heightmap. The one on the right needs a little more detail, I'm just lazy and don't want to do it right now.

What sprites would you even need?

I don't need the one on the right with qubicle ;)

Danke: all the equivalents from what is seen on the map from the spritesheet.

I would imagine it would be better to make them in 3D. Not a lot of use having a 2d ghost house standing there.

I agree. Forget the sprites- they should be 3D-ified along with everything else.

Just one thing with the map- the original 2D image is on an angle- to make it more overhead in the AOS version, you'll need to stretch the heightmap so it reaches the top border. You'll probably lose that little island at the top left, but I doubt anyone would be running around up there anyway.

EDIT: I'm no photoshop whiz, but this is what I mean:

Note that I've added a route around the north of the island for gameplay purposes. Now most of the first island is in the blue spawn zone, and there's now some land above the green spawn zone. Both sides have roughly the same amount of spawn area.

A little more detail:

I see what you mean by the stretching, but it kind of makes the edges weird, and doesn't really make much of a difference.
Also, there would be a pretty big bridge on the west side, and maybe one or two on the east islands.

Interesting idea, you'd need a good kv6 modder to make all the stuff that isn't flat, though:

World circle icon thingies
Yoshi's house
Face hills
Fort (would probably be about 16x16, not too huge)
Bridge section
Short bush/hill
Brown angle rocks
Cave level entrance
Ghost house (about the same size as the fort)
Green warp tube (should have spiral staircase inside)
Main cave doors
Vertical Waterfall sections
Ladder sections (might just be a steep staircase)
Vines
Signs
Stars
Mountain/hill thingies from Cookie island
Shipwreck
Bowser's face-cave

Maybe... maybe it'd be alot of work to do something like this :p

This will not be complete without the Valley of Bowser, Star Road, and Special Zone ;_;
