I am currently running:

Hp Probook 4530s
i3
4gb
The game worked fine in windows 7 for me. But when i switched to windows 8, the game became extremly laggy and would crash after 1 minute. To join a server I also wasnt able use the "play" site. I had to use a AOSLauncher.

As for OP, you're not the only one having this problem.

Use your network Windows 7 driver, then the ping will decrease.
Also, I've played in 15 minutes and no crash has made.
Tested: MSI Wind u100, Atom, 1gb ram.
In-game: Inactived.
