initdirectdraw 0x80004001

I keep getting the "initdirectdraw 0x80004001" error, searched for it and everybody said to change res in the config file. So I did that. I tried with 800*600, 1024*768, 1024*600, 1600*900, 1280*720, 640*480, and some more. But it still wont work. It was more than half a year since I playe Ace of Spades for the last time, and since that I've upgraded the graphics drivers to 12.3.

I'm on a laptop with Mobility Radeon HD 5470, with 1600*900 as native resolution and Windows 7.
