Thoughts on Clan Impersonation

Postby CraftDinur » Sun May 13, 2012 1:25 am

Clan impersonation is a topic that is brought up in may different clans and it can get quite annoying when you're the clan leader certain players are walking around with your clan tag without having been accepted to your clan. It's even worse when they start to make your clan look like a pile of crap by walking around and saying bogus stuff such as being the clan leader and creating the clan. But from a regular player's perspective it's much different. Normal players think that it's just a name and it shouldn't hold a player back from getting to enjoy the experience of the game and they really don't care if someone's clan is being trash talked.

So what's your thoughts? Should clan impersonators be kicked/banned like griefers and aimbotters or should they be allowed to play like regular players? What actions should we take to stop this from happening?

They fall under the "trollers" category.
A leader, a sniper, a creator...
an admin, and a loyal clan member of USAB.

Never really cared that much, since I've never been in a clan where impersonators couldn't lower the clan's reputation lower than it already is.

Clearly, clan impersonators are people who are wasting their own time to try and get others to think differently about that person they're impersonating.

Well, there's another Brazilian (either that or Polish, obviously) clan called Delta Force, with the [DELTA] clan tag. Don't know if that counts, but it's annoying as heck.

Nah. Even if it was a joke, you took it far enough to have 3 IRCs opened in different tabs. And you went around cussing like a boss on the Komrade server. That's not a "joke".

Don't do it again. You still have a ban issued on your IP for 1 week, which shall not be repealed.

Priok, you were not there. Do not judge how it occurred by seeing this thread. If it had nothing to do with you, don't hop in our business. Thanks.

I never really cared about it, I've never been in a clan. I dont really see what is all the fuzz about it, it may be really annoying but oh well.

I remember when the clan scene around here was in it's early stages, I used to find the topic of clan impersonators funny since anyone can use any name in-game, it made making clans partly obsolete, it still does really but I haven't seen many impersonators recently unlike the older times. I don't see the point of impersonating someone myself, it's not fun and doesn't do anything for yourself, you probably wouldn't even be noticed using another person's name, but eh, it doesn't really matter now, registration is practically around the corner and so this won't be possible anymore.

Speaking of which, Tank, I was wondering if your in-game names would be customizable with the registration feature.
