Hello everyone
I remember seeing a smg discussion thread a little while ago. I think that the shotgun should be given the same honor.
The shotgun is the primary close ranged weapon. It is best utilized when sneaking and surprising the enemy with a shell in the face.
At medium range, you might hurt the enemy badly, but doing anything substantial either requires luck or getting closer. To get closer I recommend either rushing wildly or if you are stealthy, slowly creeping up on the guy.

At long range, you are nearly useless. To hit an enemy at a medium-long distance aim slightly to either the left or the right of the person. The spread of the shotgun means that it does not shoot a straight bullet. If you see an enemy at a long distance do not engage and get to cover. Stealthily get closer and pump him full of lead.

The shotgun can destroy a block at a close-medium distance with one shot. This means that you can sort of jackhammer through thin walls.

For ironsights, it is user preference. The ironsight does not affect accuracy, so it really does not matter. It also slows down the user. I recommend getting good at not using them at close range because it helps speed you up.
The key to using the shotgun imo, is getting close to people without being detected. If you can sneak up on someone, your tracers are very hard to see and you can hopefully get another kill.

It says on the wiki that they don't affect weapon spread and my shotgun method revolves around surprising enemies. If you are using the iron sights you slow down.

shotgun is being buffed for the next release. We havent had a big enough test to see if it is a good buff or not

And DrPocket's is right the ironsights for the shotgun dont affect accuracy. Hip shots are just as accurate.

I doubt my opinion matters, but I think a slight increase of firing speed would be nice

By buff I really hope you just mean the easier block destruction. Shotgun is perfectly fine as it is.

And no, shotgun doesnt need a speed buff. The low RoF and the spread are the only things keeping it in line.

I guess I don't want the shotgun becoming the next rifle with people chanting to nerf it. Easier block destruction would be useful. I feel that it should get something else, maybe slightly higher accuracy?

Higher accuracy only helps it at long range, which is a nono. Its already unmatched at close range, good at med range, and a last resort at long range, so why not just leave it alone?

It's just that the rifle is best at long distances, but it can be used at medium and close distances somewhat well.
The smg is best at medium distances, but it can be used at short and is ok at long distances
The shotgun is best at short distances, it is ok at short-medium distances, pretty bad at medium and no chance at far distances

I agree with you completely, you need to be pragmatic about using iron sights, it is usually just an unnecessary step.

Even some rifle users scope in before every shot!

shotguns are not useless, there just too slow.
my main tip it to move a round a lot and you have cover only shoot one shot then hide, standing there will get you killed.
and dont go off lone wolfing your too slow and short ranged to win.

I don't want the shotgun to be broken, I think it would be horrible if shotguns became the most common weapon. I just want a very slight increase in accuracy so it can be semi-useful at medium distances.
And Funk, I often go by myself when I have the shotgun. I just find it easier to sneak around (or under) the enemy base when there is less people and less noise.

heres a tip (works in 0.75)
go sprint and gun, and dont use ironsights.
will works for raiding the enemy's base :D

Also remember to reload after every shot, since reload 1 shell is faster than the delay between shots.
