Some people say the SMG is overpowered, some say the rifle is overpowered. I guess that's another way of saying that the two are balanced.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

SMG is OP if you can handle recoil and don't mind being spotted. Add kick to it. Reasonable kick. You can't walk and shoot at the same time with it anyway, and if you try then something is wrong with you. Screw adding damage. That's bad. It's a 9mm machine pistol. MP5.

Rifle is OP if you can line a shot and compensate for the kick. Lower fire rate, add reasonable kick, make it no longer a battle rifle. Hitscan and 100% accuracy can stay for the overkill. Lower fire rate also gives more time to line another shot, but leaves you vulnerable for that time, the kick throws you off so you actually have to compensate.

Shotgun is meh because its pellets become cotton candy beyond 30 feet. At close range people just run around you in a circle. If you don't get them with the first 2 blasts, count yourself dead, it's too slow. But it's a one hit kill if you can blast them at 10 feet. They're buffing speed and capacity. It might actually be useful.

Shotgun would be a hell of a lot better if the cone of spread was in the direction you fired

Rifle is just too versatile

Submachine gun can get headshots firing full auto at long range

it's all just a big mess, where people are adding buffs and nerfs but none of them are actually dealing with what is overpowered about the weapon

What aspect of it makes it too handy.

All weapons need a downside, and all of them need skill, they need players that identify themselves with the weapon like
"i'm good with the rifle/smg/shotgun"
Because right now you can't be good with any of them simply because you can't be bad with any of them, particularly since players are very easy to hit in this game, predictable animations, slow movement, bright colors, large hitboxes.

It's a game that you can't get good at because you can't be bad at it.

I mean you can be bad at it, but if that were the case, you'd have to be bad at every shooter on earth

Not too sure about the shotgun bit, but everything else is spot on.

If an smg'er can't kill in 2 seconds (new time between rifle shots)... They need professional help.

Fun fact: in the time that the Rifle waits on it's next shot in .76, you can kill them 9 times!

Most of them fire blindly anyway, instead of making an effort to reduce kick by crouching and aiming.

Smg is ok but it has much lower damage it needs 5 shots in head on far range in 0.76 but the accuracy is true xD
