Yes, because spending $100 for Ouya just for AoS is worth it. (/sarcasm)

It is.

I have always wanted to play AoS on a console, and the Ouya is cheap.

Yeah, I remember one indie console that was a scam (Nd)

People just buy fps on consols just to throw them in a pile and burn them.

Someone slap me. First off, whats the different between a PC and a Console? Hurr durr, nothing. The least you could try doing is hound mat or Ben to make game controllers usable. My gawd.

  • You can program a computer for free without the manufacturers getting pissy. (I think this tide will turn eventually.)
  • You get a keyboard and a mouse which utterly beats the crap out of a controller for FPSes. Seriously. Mouse + Keyboard >> Thumbshits SORRY I meant thumbsticks.
  • You can usually write your software ON your PC.
  • PCs are expandable.

Of course, PCs have their cons, too, but PC architectures tend to last longer than console architectures. And while games do tend to get more resource-intensive, a lot of them are still playable on older machines, and games for older machines are usually still playable on newer machines.

Moral of the story: Consoles suck.

EDIT: But yeah, making controllers usable will be a good idea. Just DON'T EVER BLOODY DARE ASSUME THAT EVERY CONTROLLER WITH LOTS OF BUTTONS IS AN XBOX CONTROLLER AND DISALLOW PEOPLE TO REMAP THE CONTROLS BECAUSE WE HAVE PS3 CONTROLLERS AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO OPEN UP JSTEST OR REJOYSTICK JUST TO GET THE DAMN THING TO WORK!

Ouya if its actually released like advertised is more like the iphone/android market or dare I say, steam. "everything will be free" but of course, that just means a large portion of them will have demos. I guess itll be like XBox live in the sense you have something similar to gamertags but whatever.

I'll stick with my R2D2 Special Edition Xbox 360, thank you very much.

What's wrong with consoles. anyways? They're perfect for people (like me) who don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on a computer that can run modern games, and will always be a staple of gaming. Also, I do better with thumbsticks than with a mouse, anyways.

While I appreciate the notion of anything that's trying to move towards affordable platforms and open source technology, this woman is on a sinking ship. The reason gaming is largely becoming a web based affair is because the web is ubiquitous. It's an easy distribution model, because anyone who can access it is a potential consumer. The console market, even with online stores, is less appealing because you have to convince the consumer that the initial investment in the console is worth it. It's just another barrier to distribution, and it doesn't make good business sense.

The only reason we have Minecraft on Xbox360 is because it already had a dedicated (or arguably, obligated) consumer base. An indie console is unlikely to warrant a large enough market to redevelop the game (in all of it's bug-filled glory). Ben has also occurred to me as the self-hating indie developer, since it seems like all he's interested in is making the game COD-player friendly enough to monetize, so I don't see it happening as a matter of philosophy, either.

This game could be ported because 1.0 will use OpenGL. It will still need to be ported to OpenGLES, which is the mobile version of OpenGL, but it is still possible, just a lot of work.

Personally, I think there is no innovation with the Ouya. It is just a step back. I only use my console to play games casually with friends using splitscreen, or use the Kinnect. Anything else I just use my PC.
