Aos 2 Million Players? [We Made It!]

Postby xEric » Thu Jul 12, 2012 3:29 pm

Ever since EthosLab made a commentary and introduction saying he might play and make videos of this game It has gotten more players, He has 139,410 on this video right now and has more than 1,000 comments as of now, 3,000 likes on the video.

What do you think about this? I've always though this game would be a pretty small game but I bet you when we reach 1.0 the game will be almost as popular as minecraft.

It won't be as popular as Minecraft, and unless MC dies somehow I doubt it ever will.

But we are getting pretty popular, I wouldn't be surprised if in 2-3 months we have 6k people playing at once.

Yeah, We won't be as popular as MC but we'll be up there, It'll be more videos about the game but yet the game is boring to look at if your just playing and killing people. :/

Yes but the 1.0 update will fix that. The more players the better, because the more people that give Ben money for 1.0 means more and better updates for us :)

I'm just waiting for 0.76, the login feature will be a blessing for server administrators.

But onto the topic, hopefully as the community grows we will get a higher proportion of mature players rather than six year olds.

People are giving Ethos more credit than he is due.

We're already dealing with a lack of space on the servers. It's becoming harder and harder to get into the ones that are any good, and the types of people he'll attract are sure to be the self-entitled 12 year olds who overran Minecraft, displacing the otherwise intelligent community without even providing their own server space.

I'll say this again, most of Etho's fans are more mature then other Minecraft Lp'ers. If this was Captainsparklez doing this then I would agree with you. However most of the new players I have met seem much more intelligent then the usual 6 year olds from god knows what country.

AoS might be one of the more popular indie games, but it'll always be one of the bunch. Same for all the other games out there.

Yeah, I agree. Ben just doesn't have the marketing skills of Notch to monetize AoS (properly, anyhow) and it'll probably fade into obscurity pretty quickly thereafter (although he might be able to float on the hordes of ADHD COD kiddies if he gets helis working properly).

The fact is, AoS was fun because it was casual and because no one gave a shit or took it seriously enough to have anything but a good time while playing it. Now it's getting to the point where Ben is bending to the demands of a growing minority of COD kiddies who don't want to learn that the shotgun is almost universally pointless (and probably always will be) and that the game is actually about capturing the intel, not your god damn kill counter....

Get off my lawn.

I find your "AoS is becoming competitive so it attracts CoD kiddies" logic pretty funny. If it gets more casual, shouldn't it attract a less mature community, with those CoD kiddies? Making it a serious game would have the opposite effect, an extreme example being the ArmA2 community.

The logic of some of you guys is hilarious.

"More popularity is bad"
"This game should be free"

%85 of all the people you don't want playing this game will be gone when 1.0 comes out being buy-to-play. Make people buy it means only the serious players will play it. So you complain about the problem...and then complain about the solution?

I can't understand you guys. You want this to be some unknown game that only a few really good players play, you think Ben wants that? But you feel entitled to get mad and rage and such because Ben actually wants his hard work to be popular?

I am of the mindset that if someone GIVES you something, don't complain. Make suggestions. But don't complain. We will have every right to, once you buy 1.0.

I think everyone's been looking at this as if they were to pay for AoS currently. I'm sure 1.0 will be worth the money, as long as Ben doesn't make a wrong turn from here.

I didn't even know that we would have to buy the next update/game.
It's okay I guess, it won't really be too expensive.
And as you say, AOS is attracting ''COD boys''. AOS was made for being a layd back game and everyone just had a laugh about it.
Even though ''COD boys'' may bring benefits with them as of a bit more serious game and more clan matches to bring a new perspective of AOS.
