A hypothetical situation

Postby SICKfudge » Sat Jul 07, 2012 8:45 pm

Before i start here i want to make it clear I dont belive in any way at all that this would be done, this is just a hypothetical situation so while i welcome discussion, please dont treat me like some sort of idiot.
Anyway, I was playing the 0.76 pre-releace thisevening and the first thing i noticed (not including the game mechanics) was the lack of "kto poltaks' whiny little kids and just a generally higher standard of player than i usally meet ingame.
So what if we didnt put the download link for 0.76 on the main website, and left it in the irc where only dedicated players would find it while everyone else plays 0.75? Do you think this would raise the standard of the community? Discuss.

They'd creep in like roaches and corrupt the IRC eventually... It's a good concept though. A registration system would be a more plausible fix.

You want to make it harder for people to download a game?

That's like running a shop 30mins from town in some back ally.

No.

That would be nice. A reserved version for the ancient and nice members of the community. Very elitist , but at the rate the non forum community is going down , i think it's reasonable.

I'm not on the IRC, ever. But I spend at least 2 hours playing Ace of Spades each day. I think we're going to have to deal with the kids. But we can have a non-English site for each common language. They would have different servers than the English site. It's a good suggestion, though, for those that are on the IRC daily.

Yeah, the 0.75rc was really fun. There was a lot of teamwork and there were no hackers and polaks.

Well, wouldn't the downloads plummet? I know that some people don't like joining forums, and such. This would affect the number of people who download the game.

If they can't register a forum account then they probably won't buy the finished game, so we're not losing anything other than people we don't really need by going to a registration system.

I quite like this suggestion.

Yeah. On this laptop, though, the ratio is bad for AoS. it's got alot of black space.
