Does the Game not Recognize Certain Usernames?

Postby Shou » Sun Jun 24, 2012 7:06 am

Hey, everyone!
Just got back from a riveting game on the Aloha Babel server.

...where we had a rather terrible experience with an a player who was sniping our entire team down in about one second at a time while he did so little as just approach us from the front. So, as one thing lead to another, we tried to kick the guy.

But a votekick wouldn't start.
Instead, we got a message, "Invalid parameters," and no votekick would begin.

The guy's name displayed in gibberish, and would say one thing on the scoreboard, and another in the...in-game chat-display-thing in the bottom-left of the screen and the kill stream thing in the top-left of the screen.

So my question is...Is the Ace of Spades client* unable to recognize foreign characters, let alone allow votekicks against players with foreign characters in their username?

(*that's the right word for the game program itself, right?)

For reference, here's what the guy's name displayed as. He's the one with the gibberish name in the kill stream in the top-left and also the top-scoring player on green: http://i.imgur.com/URPTt.png

...Weird thing was, a short while afterwards, someone logged in with Korean text in their username, and it displayed correctly (at least for me, it did). Then the guy promptly began displaying the same suspicious-omnipotent-mobile-sniping that the first guy did. Same situation occurred when we tried kicking that new guy, too.

You use the ID number of a person if the name ever contains foreign characters/symbols.
http://aceofspadeswiki.com/index.php?title=Votekick

Use this Leaderboard as an example: http://i.imgur.com/hKZms.png

Say you want to votekick "Saikano" (the person on the top of blue leaderboard), you could say:
/votekick Sai
/votekick Saikano
OR
/votekick 17

As long as the votekick contains part of the name OR the the ID number, it should work.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

Yeah, that's the thing.
When we tried kicking the first guy using the /votekick # method, and it gave us the "Invalid paramter" response, which was weird.

And as for trying to kick the guy through typing out his name, well...I guess the issue with that becomes apparent since he's sporting a bunch of special characters in that username.

Votekick can be wonky sometimes, did you try ./votekick#(#)?

Using the # in front of the number works sometimes.

Yeah, sometimes /votekick just does not want to work. The player's name doesn't seem to matter; sometimes it will refuse to kick them, even if you type out their entire name.

Hm, Maybe they had a trusted password?
Aloha has a trusted system, They give you the password after you apply and are accepted and you type it in using "/password my password" and then you cannot be kicked.

if you try to votekick a trusted user it will not say invalid parameters but instead will say something like "you cannot votekick this user".

the syntax for ID votekicking is /votekick #IDNUMBER. if you forgot the "#" it's possible the game would try to votekick a person with the number 18 or something in it and would've failed since no one has that name. if you did get the "#" in it's possibly a bug and you should report it to izzy at http://www.aloha.pk

other than that, try to do the votekick by using characters you can use such as "/" or "$" which are in his name. you can also try to use the command /admin and message a warning to the admins who may be watching. if that fails as well, go onto #aloha on Quakenet and try to inform one of the guards/moderators/admins who will try to help you. sorry we couldn't have been much use to you guys in your time of need.
