Opinions and ideas about Spectator mode

You "spectate" on death, have the ability to fly around during respawn timer

Talent is right. I'm just not feeling a spectator mode for the players. Though, Beret brought up a nice subtle idea, where you can look around your corpse after death.

I'd vote for
"(Separate team idea above) except it has a server-side on/off toggle"
if the server has an automatic restriction, where people that join this team, don't get to speak at all unless admins allow them to. Similar to the !mute command would be fine.

Spectating on death would be rather pointless since most servers only have a few seconds before spawning again, they could increase that time, but I think I can say that most people prefer instantaneous spawning. Having it as an intel capture reward would be unfair really, since you can find any secret fortress someone has built, or anything else. Things like airstrikes for this make a lot more sense.

So, I chose having a third team with the option of toggling. This would be good for anyone that just wants to observe or for a clan match or tournament even, it would definitely make things a lot more interesting. I also think it would be nice to be able to click on a player (for example) to see things from their view, which could also be toggleable perhaps each player could choose whether to allow this or not from the configuration because I know some wouldn't like this, but at the same time people would, it's good to have the option.

2nd and 4th option. Both would be cool, but it all comes down to server preference.

I think you should only be able to spectate your own team members, maybe from the option of a few different camera angles. If we have spectating be a free flying separate team, people will go spectate to scout for enemies and then just switch back to their own team.

Solution to that is putting a delay on being able to switch to spectator mode.
Sure they could lurk and see where you are, but it's nicer in a game if people are on the move rather than camping, and in some ways this might encourage moving about.

If this happens and isn't optional, I'll be very sad. I think spectate on death is a wonderful feature and a much better idea. Maybe just have an option for either or? Also "does not take up a player slot" has to be looked at carefully because many servers limit the player amount based on bandwidth consumption.

Admin should have full spectate, meanwhile the players can locked-spectate teammates.
