End of days might be coming!

For all things AoS!

End of days might be coming!

Postby Stiivais » Thu Feb 09, 2012 8:29 pm

Yesterday, the masterserver temporarily crashed, and many of the games were not available.
Today, the forum is loading either partially, or showing a "page not available" screen.
What will happen tomorrow? ...

Seriously, this game's current host might not be fit for the traffic this site needs,
seeing as there is a slowdown in operation of forums and also the crash might have been caused by this.

So, my question.
Will this end with a crash of main site,
or with an official telling me, that i'm tripping?

Edit: Guys on the IRC channel think, that this could be due to a DoS or DDoS attack on the site.
(Distributed Denial of Service attack), this could be true, as the forums don't just crash,
but are massively slowed down, but this makes another question appear...
Who the hell would want to do such a think? To all the happy deuces out there?
I mean, seriously, can't we all live in peace? We are having hard time combating the legion of
impatient 12 year olds, as it is...

Also: shutting up because i have caused some annoyances lately.

Noticed the same thing. It's absolutely brutal, but we probably aren't going to see a better host until the game becomes monetized.

Like I said to GreaseMonkey, it's probably because they don't like the way the game is going.

(respawn waves, spectator mode, etc, etc.)

I also reckon it's to make Ben to listen to the community more, which surprisingly doesn't happen a lot.

Just my thoughts though.

With all due respect, you are wrong. Obviously it is the minecraft community.

I don't agree with you Pulch, as to me AoS gets better with each update. I guess that some people just have hard time to accept change, but don't worry, i'm sure 99% of players love the game as it's getting deeper, in fact the daily concurrent player score increase every day.

Edit : Ben if you read this, AoS is awesome and is getting better with each update, take your time on 0.75 debugging. (Or haters gonna hate on every little glitch)

It is fairly easy to spot a DDoS... I am sure that if it really was a DDoS then Ben would have heard from the hosters by now, and we wouldn't have "people in IRC speculated"...

Until Ben explicitly states that is the case there is no reason to assume that anything has been DDoSed.

That said, it is also fairly easy for him to log in to whatever he uses to monitor the page stats and see if it is just high traffic and if he needs to upgrade.

So yeah, thread is totally pointless and is just wild speculation...

+1 up sim.

The game is going fairly well, I just started playing 2-3 months ago so I am already used to the new updates.
It seems to be more balanced out and with the upcoming one would help a lot with building. Is it even possible that
minecraft causes the lag?

So how is it justifiable that about 20 people have voiced opinions and arguments against the update, and the rest of the 2200 members on the forum are the quiet majority. It's a good thing the 20 or so know how the game should be developed, isn't it.

Maybe cause most of the rest of the members like CoD/ or don't even know about the update.

Go ingame and ask people what they think of the upcoming update, see what they say.

Also, why is there 2200 forum users, but the most people ingame was 1800.... hrm

Because of that_guy. Or because we're having around a thousand players on any given moment, playing the game. It's not a downloaded count, it's an online player count. The download count is at around a few hundred thousand unique downloads.

Nevertheless, game development is not a democratic process. Ben is not making a game for us, he is simply making a game. We might like playing it, but it still doesn't give anyone a say in what should go in, so maybe this righteous beacon of justice and game development should take a look in the mirror. If this is the case, it's like kindergarten again - "you no give me toy, i push you >:(".

You design a game based around a specific group of people, be it the creative people, (see: Minecraft, Terraria) or the fighting people (See: CoD, Battlefield). If you build a game for both, then you need opinions on both, and that's where suggestions come in. There is 8 pages of suggestions, and yes I realize that most of them are crap, but there are a few that are actually decent and would be GOOD for the game.

Unless Ben of course wants to make it a cheaper/lowsys requirement of Spades of Duty: Block Ops.

So who gets to decide what would actually be GOOD for the game? Oh, right, the GAME DEVELOPER does. See, there's a bit of a problem with trying to forcibly bring democracy into something it doesn't belong to. Democracy is not always the right answer for everything. The guy who does the development of the game has decided it will be good for the game he wants to make, so it's in there, and no-one else has fuck-all of a say about it. Of course saying "Oh hey, that's a bad idea" is okay - it just doesn't mean the dev should actually agree and comply with it. He can do that, he totally can, but nothing obliges him to.

... you need opinions on both...

You do not need duck all but some coffee, a vision, some skill and a computer.
