system reqs for version 1.0?

Postby Pvtrex » Sun Jul 29, 2012 10:40 am

What are the system requirements for vesion 1.0? I love the fact that you can play aos on Grandma rigs and I'm thinking of buying version 1.0 but I'm afraid my pc won't be able to run it. So what do you guys think about how high the system requirements for version 1.0 are?
You just gotta love that feeling when you're using a smg and you flank 3 rifle players huddle together in 1 spot.

If your PC can support OpenGL 2.0 then it will probably work.

According to Mat, the OpenGL version will run better than the Voxlap version.

IDIOT! Do you know that some computers don't actually have graphics cards? And did you also know that 50% of the community are here because they can't play other FPS games because they don't have graphics cards?

If Ben and Mat had any brains they would still support voxlap in 1.0.

I am fairly sure my computer will run it no problem, but if it doesn't I will be very mad.

Supposedly there's still going to be a Voxlap version of Ace of Spades continuing to be updated after 1.0. From here, it's supposed to be:

.76
1.0
.77
.78
etc...

Who's the idiot? Me or Mat/Ben?

All three.

The point is, half the community doesn't have a modern computer and have computers that go back to 2000, when graphics cards were a luxury, not a requirement.

That'd be the early '90s, if we're talking about graphics cards in the modern sense. Most, if not every single home PC sold during the 2000's at least have a chipset-integrated graphics adapter. Some readers might remember the term "3D-accelerator".

Driver support for OpenGL 2.0 has been available for most ATi/AMD GPUs released after 2002 and most nVidia GPUs released after 2003. Basically this means Radeon 9500 and GeForce 5200 onwards. This includes integrated chipsets as well.

I'm not saying all these cards will run AoS 1.0, because I have no clue about that. I'm saying these cards support OpenGL 2.0.

Here's a couple of nifty lists to check if your chip supports OGL2.0

If you don't know your GPU, the TechPowerUP GPU-Z is a handy tool for finding it out.

If you can play the voxlap version of ace of spades your computer have a graphics card.
But voxlap only use the CPU to render the game, while aosGL will use both the CPU and GPU.

The reason Mat/Ben are switching to OpenGL is because OpenGL is Multi-Platform, allowing Mac/Linux users to play the game without having to download a specific version. I would understand people wanting the game to stay Voxlap because people dont have great PCs as you said, but Its understandable that Ben wants the game to stick out more, given that the game has pretty bad graphics, it wont stand out as much as say Minecraft. Voxlap runs better on any machine, but If your computer has no Graphics Card/Chipset, you need to get a better build. Im not saying get a $3000 Computer, but find something thats in your price range. You can find an alright computer that will run this game and many more for $200-300 on Craigslist or Ebay. I recommend craigslist though, because you dont need PayPal for it.

My computer doesn't even have a GPU of any kind, just an intel integrated chip.

EDIT: And I looked up online, the chip supports openGL 1.3 maximally. Thanks a lot Ben/Mat. I won't be playing AoS 1.0 thanks to your stupidity.

Hobohob, can you play minecraft?

And an Intel Integrated Chip, IIRC, is a GPU. Its a Graphics Processing Unit.

I don't see how wanting to use a new engine because it'll run smoother and will be multi-platform is stupid.

I can play minecraft, MC uses openGL 1.1.

It's stupid because I am guessing around half the community is here because they are in situations like me, going to openGL 2 will make it so that Ben will lose a lot of players.

EDIT: And just because openGL is multi-platform, doesn't mean that AoS will run without changes to the source on Mac and Linux.

"Half the community"...

How do you know that half of the community doesn't have a graphics card? Did you ask EVERY SINGLE member of this community if they have a graphics card?

BS is strong with this one, it seems.
