The clan council is looking for members.

Postby Doctor » Thu Jul 19, 2012 11:55 am

Hey everyone! The clan council is currently recruiting members, if you are interested please keep reading.

What is the purpose of the council?
The clan council serves the purpose of discussing applications sent from clans in order to become official and receive their own subsection, it is an easy task but not everyone is able to actually do it right.

We will require dedicated and active members who are willing to investigate clans for several days/weeks in order to construct an entirely professional opinion of a clan (following some bullet points) to later on cast a vote and debate the votes with the other council members in order to reach a conclusion. Although it sounds like a relatively easy task not everyone is able to pull it off while remaining entirely professional and unbiased towards a clan, what I mean by unbiased is being able to construct your opinion out of facts and not personal opinions of the clan members/leaders, these kind of votes are frowned upon inside the council.

As this is an anonymous position we require you to send the application via PM to the clan managers usergroup (make sure to choose the usergroup in the box highlighted in the previous URL), don't post them here and make sure you include all the information about yourself in it, regarding clans and your involvement in them and why you would like to form part of the council, these are some of the things that you should keep in mind while writing the application. This written application will be a huge influence so make sure you take your time writing it.

If you have any questions feel free to ask them here, but don't post your application here or you will be instantly denied. Good luck to all applicants!

While I assume one should put their experiences with clans and community of AoS and overall reason why they feel they would be right for the council, should one also put in personal stuff? Or should an application be solely one about their experiences?

Not only your experiences, everything you could possibly say about yourself to increase your chances of joining. Although some extra details are nice, it's mostly personal info (not real life details).

I would just like to make clear something I misconceived before hand. i did not realize that people would be allowed to apply.

I thought they would be hand chosen by the administration, and having no chance to apply is something i have always heavily disagreed with (any of the red shirts can confirm that for you xD). And though i still on principle do not agree with the anonymous nature of the council,

this being that all actions by those in power no matter how minute must always be performed in the broad daylight of truth. If men must gather in shadows to make decisions for the AoS community, then it does make me guess as to the legitimacy of the decisions? perhaps not. I do however understand why the member-list is kept priv, and i suppose given the nature of the decision making it is necessary.

tl;dr: hm, perhaps i spoke to soon.

It's kept private so that nobody can even attempt to sway the members in their decisions and they don't get PMs of "OMG CAN U PLZ ACEPT MY CLANN SECTION I WRKED SO HARD PLZ PLZ PLZ XDDDDDDDD"

Imagine that you get choosen and the council is not anonymous.
You go to this clan your investigating to see if it should have a sub-section and all of the sudden they realise u are a member of the council, then they start saying "woow your such an amazing player", "we are big fans of yours", and stuff like that, thats why it needs to be anonymous.

The anonymity of such a board of members is very crucial. This council is -not- a congress; they are merely trusted or acceptable members of a community worthy of choosing who should have a clan section or not.
The fact that such members would dedicate time to such a task is nice; especially since the application process seems rigorous, one can only assume that all of these members have a strong sense of equality and equal-chance. Better to be a few men in shadows, than one man in broad daylight. The legitimacy of those deciding is not necessarily for anyone to question considering the nature of the clans that already have their own sections; most, if not all, of these clans are ran with nearly the same organization and maturity as the others. While they may not all be extravagant in their maturity, most people here are kids anyway; all the council is really trying to ensure is that the leaders will be capable of being just that: leaders.

Should leaders allow their clan's members to get out of hand, then obviously that clan is not worthy of upholding such responsibility; in such a case, the clan would not receive a spot.

These decisions are not made overnight, as clearly stated in the topic; these decisions could take several days, weeks even. If a clan so wishes to have such a worthy position among a large community, such as this one, they should have to prove they are worthy of it. I understand you're concerned with the fact you have nobody to challenge should one fail to receive the responsibility he/she wishes to assume, but simply put, there is no matter of answering the right questions or cajoling one who has authority over you; as a few actions among peers will speak far louder than all the words you can breathe to those with authority.
