Our official hang-out channel is #RoT on our IRC network. Feel free to stop in to say hi. We reserve the right to ban people we hate for any reason.

Additional information:

Channel Name: #RoT
Server: Our own
Operators: ReubenMcHawk, That_Guy, ShadowSG, Kanye, Pulchritude
Bots: None atm
IRC server address: PM me for it, it's been childishly word-filtered.
Webchat Link: None yet

What is IRC?
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a multi-user, multi-channel chatting system. Imagine sitting in front of your computer and "talking" through typed messages with either one person or many other people from all over the Internet, all in real time! Best of all, once you get set up, chatting on IRC is totally free!

How do I get one of these?
You will need to download a client, mIRC is recommended:
You can find the mIRC install files here: http://www.mirc.com/get.html
Install mIRC in your preferred folder, and start it up!

Setting up mIRC.
When first starting up, mIRC will prompt you with a window that it will expire in 30 days. Don't worry about this, you will still be able to use it after thirty days without a problem.

After pressing continue, You will be prompted with the mIRC Options form:

  • Real name: Do not fill in your real name for your own security! A nickname will suffice here.
  • Email address: You can put your e-mail here (they won't send you any mail), though you are not obliged to. You can fill in anything you wish.
  • Nickname: Fill in your nickname.
  • Alternative: Fill in a second nickname in case your first one is in use.

When filled in, click on "Servers" under the "Connect" tree.

Click "Add", and fill everything out like below:

When done, go back to "Connect" and press on "Connect to server" (You can also connect by the thunder icon in the icon bar.)

Congratulations! You got on the RoT IRC Server!
It's time for your first command. Type this "/join #RoT".
This will pop up a new window. You're now on the official RoT channel!

Registering with NickServ.
First, switch to the status window to minimize the consequences of potential mistakes.
  • Step 1: Requesting your details:

Code: Select all
Type this command: "/msg NickServ register <yourpass> <youremail>" Email is optional, but needed to change password.

[15:16:28] -> *nickserv* register herpyderp
-
[15:16:28] -NickServ- Nickname derpyherp registered under your account: *nou@*.127.0.0.1
-
[15:16:28] -NickServ- Your password is herpyderp - remember this for later use.

  • Step 2: Identifying

Paste this line in your status window (Make sure that it is only that line, that there are no spaces in front of it, and no whitelines above or under!)

Code: Select all
/msg NickServ identify herpyderp
 -> *nickserv* identify herpyderp
-
 * services.bobthebuilder.com sets mode: +r
-
 -NickServ- Password accepted - you are now recognized.

And you're good. Enjoy our IRC!
