Yes, Tekkit is cool. I have played on a few tekkit servers in the past, and can say that they are great fun. however, there are a few problems with tekkit.
1. Lag. With the kind of stuff you can build with tekkit, huge strain is put on the server. Tickrates often drop drastically, which makes tekkit a lot less fun because said machines do not function as well, and also has side affects like trees growing slower. while it is possible to limit what players can build, this takes a lot of the fun out of it.
2. Inflexibility. While i have not been keeping up with recent tekkit news, I remember something a while ago about forestry being taken out due to compatibility issues with the launcher (this may have been resolved though, for all i know). Not only is forestry awesome, this demonstrates the general problem of using a modpack which you have no control over. Using a custom mod setup would give much greater flexibility, instead of leaving us at the mercy of some developers. While getting people to install the mods themselOuves can be a general pain, we are running a cracked server, and therefore i think we can ignore the moral qualms of making our own modpack.
If the go-ahead is given for tekkit or some tech mods in general, then please for the love of god do not add EE in any of its incarnations. it is quite simply game-breaking (On a side note, thaumcraft is awesome and (Mostly) balanced). Secondly, we should wait. in the backwash of 1.3, a lot of mods still arent updated, and may take some time to do so. because a lot of mods alter world gen, we would have to regenerate the map anyway, and if we waited and added the mods one by one we would have to regenerate the map every single time.
Just to note: I am not against Tekkit and tech mods in general (I Think they are awesome), just pointing out the problems with them.
