OpenGL, do we REALLY want it?

Got a great new idea for the game?

What do you think of OpenGL?

OpenGL looks like crap.

OpenGL, do we REALLY want it?

Glowing blocky guns and tools
Blocks that just disappear
Framerate issues
Extra memory usage (no longer run on grandmas rig)
Fog which cuts off too quickly, making things look really jaggy in the distance

Honestly, the fuzzy blocks and soft fog rendering is one of the main things that makes this game feel unique from other block games. The drunken camera was simply a programming limitation that was fixed, but OpenGL is an entirely different client that isn't needed and doesn't fix any issues! In fact, it MAKES many NEW issues! Not to mention the server list looks like something out of the mid-90's, and we don't need animated "Ace Of Spades" logo wiggling around all over the place.

Solution to problem:
Cilent-toggable.
^ This is the final solution to fix the problems, and btw, OpenGL as Mat^2 said, makes the game runs better on your grandma's rig, as it:
Mat^2 wrote:Actually, it should run a lot better on your grandma's rig because it uses GPU hardware acceleration. Your mileage may vary, though.

I do want it.

Who said there were framerate issues?
Who said it uses more memory?

It uses real graphics acceleration, not "software", it should run faster.
Also, it's the neon-colored players that make it glow. Other than that, I couldn't see anything else glowing.

Also, if you don't want to go to the server list, you could just go to http://www.ace-spades.com/play/. It's just a client, after all.
Also:
like something out of the mid-90's

Retro.

Also, client-side toggle isn't always the way to go. It's getting repetitive that when someone doesn't want an update, someone just suggests "client-side toggleable".
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

Repetitive?
(Sucks at English)
And since the poll is full of negative votes, so i don't vote it.

Repetitive is correct spelling, afaik.

Uhm, someone always keeps saying "Server-side toggleable" whenever there is a disagreement in a suggestion.

Oh ok
But since there are "rumors" about AoS gonna be paid, OpenGL should worth the "9-10 $"

Well it better be toggable, because not only does it look horrible, but my PC has trouble with any form or OpenGL.

IF your computer can handle it, then your hope should get higher.
