Separate .kv6's for first and third person weapon view

Got a great new idea for the game?

Separate .kv6's for first and third person weapon view

Postby Yakkers » Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:41 pm

I think the current system of having one weapon model for every view has some pretty hefty flaws. First of all, arms or other additional first person details can't be added to a model without it ruining the look of the gun being held by other players and in the weapon selection screen. Also, sometimes the optimal position for the gun to look nice in first person causes it to be skewed out of the arms in the third person view on other players. And third, it'd be fantastic if we could make our models at a larger scale for much more first person detail, while allowing us to just make a separate smaller model to prevent it from looking massive on other players and during weapon select.

So my proposition is to have two .kv6 files per weapon, labeled first and third person. The first person model would obviously only be used for the first person view, and the third person model would be placed in the arms of other players and used for the weapon select screen.

So, any thoughts? I think it'd solve a lot of current problems and allow future mods to be a lot more precise and comprehensive.

Third person view is a very good idea.

That's a brilliant idea. The realism of the 1st person gun can be made to match the sight it has for authenticity.

I'm not 100% convinced, can't we just make it so the hand shows up in 1st person view?

This is just an excellent idea. It wouldn't even be hard to remaster old mods if this was implemented, since the files could just be copied with a different name.

More clientside modification possibilities are always welcome.
