Slower autoclimb

Got a great new idea for the game?

Ohh..

Anyways, descending is faster in real life than ascending.

Gravity does the "going down" for you. On the other hand, your legs have to exert a force when ascending.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

Meh counting on gravity to help you descend will only get you so far, where as your legs can make you go as fast as you want. Personally I'm skeptical, going down stairs may be easier but not faster.

I don't know, empirically, I find myself going downstairs faster.

Well for sure going downstairs is a way faster. For example: I live on 6st floor, when i am going downstairs with all of my speed i can overtake elevator for like 2 or 3 floors, and if i'l go up i will barelly catch the elevator.

I think there are a lot of factors ingame too, I mean this is a 1:1 gradient with steps that are quite high, going down them too fast could be quite painful and damaging to the knees.

If were going for realism can we make our characters out of shape and have to stop after climbing 20 steps?

Well. I can go down for a 10 steps in less than a second. But when i go up it takes around two seconds. When you running down the hill the more you go down the faster you get. Not with som math progression, but a bit faster. And it does not damages the knees, but can make you fall and roll down because of the speed you gaining.

Well I think you need to consider that the AoS 'steps' are a fair bit higher than the steps you are used to. They are around 2 feet high each, which is quite considerable when descending fast.

I don't think that it's even a steps. It's more like hill. So i whould be OK with falling and stiff controls after getting speed, but it smells like pretty hard coding.

P.S. be a man and use metric system, inches and feets are for capitalistic pigs.

As I remember correctly, AoS is set somewhere in WWII and Vietnam war, which were fought by children.

Why should we apply realism to this game?

"this game is unrealistic" is just as bad argument as "because it's realistic".
Or even worse, because realistic changes at last make it more intuitive and immersive (unless they hinder gameplay).

This.

There is a reason why almost every game has gravity going down, it is because we expect it to.
Realism is not exactly what is most intuitive (often real life is unrealistic), but if we go for what is expected or considered to be normal then the intuitiveness increases.

Ah well, you don't usually just flee past mountains then?
