Going downhill you should gather momentum, and jumping could make it a fair amount faster the steeper you are running down.
Make going up slower - it should be between spacebar-spam and the current autoclimb. Currently you can float up a mountain way quicker than you could ever tunnel through it. Make it slower but make going down the other side quicker - would balance out.

How exactly does walking up stairs slower make the game more tactical? Wouldn't it just encourage camping and make me die faster?
