What are these Animations for?

At first: I am not really sure if this is the right categorie to post this Topic but I thought it would be the best place to ask it and yeah:

Like you can read in the discription I want to know for what these little quadratical blinky animations at the left of each Topic are. Thanks to everybody who is able to help me!

Those are indicators for what kind of topic it is. The topics go as follows:

Two olive boxes diagonal to each other: Standard Topic
Two olive boxes diagonal to each other with a star: Standard Topic you've posted in
Two olive boxes diagonal to each other with a lock: Locked Standard Topic
Two olive boxes diagonal to each other that are flashing: Popular Standard Topic
There can also be multiple things in these topic markers. If a topic is locked and you've posted in it, it will have a lock and a star.

Stickied topics are two vertical olive boxes and Announcements are two horizontal olive boxes. These can also be flashing, starred, or locked.
