First off Thanks for trying it out! Secondly, is the .NET framework crashing for you? just slow? Is it behaving badly? lol I'll get it in line :)

Originally when developing, I wanted to push it in .NET 2.0 for compatibility reason, I mean the game is low on requirements, having a editor with higher requirements... lol.. not ideal... But unfortunatly with the .NET 2.0 Framework you lose the GDI "Drawing" Functionallity that I need, so I had to have it on the .NET 4 Framework.

I'm getting a ton of errors when I try to use almost any function in this, and then it crashes. It even gives an error when I try to start it up. http://pastebin.com/HPmF82QB is the starting error. Something about not having access to the recycle bin.
Then I'm getting "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: path." and these details: http://pastebin.com/rJHschfA when I try to work with a heightmap. I can't use it at all. It's probably something wrong with my piece-of-crap computer, but it might not be.

EDIT: I fixed it by repairing .NET 4.0 and running setup as admin. I guess it was permission-based.
EDIT: EDIT: I'm still getting a few errors when I try to do things, and it's very difficult to place blocks on top of another block in the Doodad editor. But hey, it's in beta.

Wow. This has to be one of the best mapping tools I have ever seen. Not only is it really awesome. but it's insanely user friendly. I could do just about anything for a map using this one program.

The only problem I have with this is all the errors and the fact the program keeps going unresponsive, especially with a few of the tools. Hopefully I can get those undercontrol.

Also, quick question, how does the heightmap work? I can only make the level "low" and it doesn't get any higher.

You are awesome for doing your own debug! Yeah permissions seems to be an issue across the entire .NET Framework, as Windows7 becomes more and more locked down with UAC control, software is becoming less about the function, and more about just trying to adhere to framework requirments... I get it, but I don't like it...

Knowing this though, I will need to write this down for others who may have similar issues, thank you for your help!

As for the Doodad editor, it has been a large focus so hopfully by next release I will have that figured out, the latest 0.1.1.0 does have a 2D Layer interface that will still allow you to still build vertically until I get the next update out.

Errors suck! :D Sorry about that, and super awesome compliment, thank you! Feel free to post screen shots or debug information in this forum, it will really help to get the kinks worked out.

hmmm, you just gave me the idea that maybe some video tutorials may be needed for some of this... even with the effort to make it user friendly... Not sure when I will get time for that lol, but am deff going to need to write up a little bit of a walkthrough to go with the install, or add help directly into the software... hmmm

So when editing the height maps, use the "brush max height" slider to adjust the max height of the brush ( Why not just have a height? because it allows grading, so the max height is the center point of the brush unless specified other wise using the tolerance slider ) the gradient of the brush should also change to reflect the difference in height based on the scale that is created from your selected color palette. "brush size" slider to adjust the diameter of the brush The tolerance slider adjusts the rate or grade of decline, so a low tolerance will produce mountains or hills, where a high tolerance will produce a platuea with drop off instead of a decline.

Let me know if that helps, if not, please let me know.

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

The setup needs to run as administrator to install properly for some systems, for my system is does not, but others have reported this same weird recycling bin access error, I'm still working on eliminating the issue.

Just do a right-click on the blockman_setup.exe and run as admin. That should fix the issues.

You can also try to do a .NET Framework 4 Repair Install

You can download from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718

Once the repair is successfull, retry the setup using the "run as admin". This time it it will work! :D

Well I figured out what's going on, I have a recursive function for searching for your aos install, and due to permissions it's crashing the function, trying to search in recycling bin of all places lol, I'll get it patched up, but it still shouldn't throw up the permission issue, so even with the fix other issues may arrise from lack of permission.

Well I figured out what's going on, I have a recursive function for searching for your aos install, and due to permissions it's crashing the function, trying to search in recycling bin of all places lol, I'll get it patched up, but it still shouldn't throw up the permission issue, so even with the fix other issues may arrise from lack of permission.

what the .NET Framework repair?
