The Humble Indie Bundle V - Review

Postby Defaulter » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:04 am

Heyy,

I recently acquired the bundle courtesy of daniella (<3333 thank you >.<) and have been spending the last few hours rotting my brain. The results of which are below.

Amnesia The Dark Decent - Was unable to run on my netbook (whose mad?)

LIMBO - Was ALSO unable to run on my netbook (not mad yet?)

Psychonauts - guess what :P couldnt play it on my netbook

Braid - This game blew my mind, it is visually stunning and the control remind me greatly of mario. But with a twist, you can warp the very fabric of time, rewind it, slow it down etc. Which makes for some awsume mind bending gameplay.

At first it makes you think "MARIO RIPOFF" But after a little while, you get sucked into it big time, having to time your jumps perfectly, re winding and using trial and error to navigate perilous dungeons and seemingly deadly flowery meadows....I love everything about it.

Lone survivor - Damn...damndamndamn....this game gave me the chills in the first 5 seconds. Even the opening dialogue makes the hairs on the back of your neck stickup. And 10 minuets later I was turning round in my chair to look behind me. No joke.

This games uses shadows and dark spots, to terrifying effect. You better be stealthy and remember to turn off that flash light when you hear them coming ;]

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP - This is another game which blew my mind, the artwork, the backgrounds, characters, movements...everything is just stunning. And the music is just so atmospheric. The game feels so surreal to play, its almost therapeutic in its tranquillity. And nostalgic in some of sound effects and game concepts.

Definitely my fav so far.

Super meat boy - I myself am not a big fan of these games, (mainly becuase I suck real bad at them) But if your fan of the meat boy, your gunna love this. Its everything you'd want and more, more levels, better gameplay and MUCH more gore.

I cannot reccomend this bundle enough, its fantastic. Hope you enjoy it guys~

Only downloaded Braid, Limbo and Lone Survivor so far. Been stuck on 7% for Super Meat Boy for an hour T_T
I have heard great things about most these games though, I'm patiently waiting to finish these downloads.

Also, not that I really care but, shouldn't this have gone into the Gaming section?

I've spent about 2 hours on Lone Survivor so far and have to say it's one of the BEST indie games out there. It's real easy to pick up and it's really easy to get into. I very well recommend this to everyone and anyone.

As for the other games, I have no clue. Though, based on DE's sayings on Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, I'm so checking it out next :)

@DE, trust me, Lone Survivor gets creepier further one 0.e

I already have most of the games offered in the pack, but they are all pretty good games.

Amnesia in my opinion, is fantastic. Its horrific world is an easy one to become immersed into, and that is what makes the game. When you think about it, the game is pretty simple, just hide from things and solve puzzles. It isn't as easy with the horror blended in with it all.

Bastion has some pretty visuals, and it's pretty neat to see the world fall in place in front of you. The narration can be amusing too, damn sexy voice.

Braid is also a visually appealing game which is obviously inspired by Mario. If it wasn't obvious before, it will be by the time you reach the end of the first world. It's time warping puzzles are a good challenge, and when you figure them out you'll probably be slapping yourself saying "It was obvious!"

Limbo has no words, no real backstory, no text. It's a dark world that gets you thinking about what the story may be instead. You don't know if your character is good or bad, or, if you didn't look it up, your own goal. Another puzzle game, though fairly easy.

Super Meat Boy is a damn challenging game. Certainly not for the easily enraged gamer. It starts simple enough, but things kick up on later levels. There are different characters with different skills to play as, but by the time you unlock them you'll probably spend most time as Meat Boy himself simply because you've been using him for so long and are probably most comfortable as him.

If you buy this bundle, you're not going to regret it. All of these games are pretty great.

Even though i just started playing Lone Survivor i have to say that it is good, but scary.
It is a 2d Penumbra or Amnesia.

I wasn't actually going to download any of them, I mostly got it for others but I'm downloading Limbo, Amnesia (Is it really that scary? o_O), Super Meat Boy, S&S, Lone Surviver and Psychonauts. Wish me luck!

EDIT: I realized I probably can't run half of these.

Psychonauts was pretty damn awesome.
Super Meat Boy, I've played a couple of times before. It's supposed to be frustrating!
Played a bit of Amnesia recently. Quite creepy.

I have yet to try the rest.

Also, I want to put in that Lone Survivor is for people who enjoy rpg/strategy type games. Sometimes the course can be super easy, and at other times, it can take an hour to advance one hallway.

Some tips for Lone Survivor:

-Dont use flashlight unless needed
-Always have 6 rotten flesh
-Always use the newest mirror you find
-Read all text (I know its tempting to skip it all spamming x :P)
-Observer everything!

For fighting/defending:

-Shoot at legs for zombies to back up
-Dont wast ammo (It comes in handy)
-Wait a second before taking next shot (Sometimes they start falling late and you end up wasting your ammo)
-

f anyone needs help with Lone Survivor, just ask ;)
