Rome: Total war gold [includes barbarian invasion expansion] is like 5 USD on steam. Absolutely amazing game, arguably the best TW game to date. [I still say gun powder has ruined every TW game it's appeared in.] should you ever get bored of vanilla look up the Europa Barbarorum and Roma Surrectum mods, both take the game to an almost unbelievable level.

Also, AoE2 is a fantastic game even at over a decade of age with plenty of multiplayer matches via gameranger. Don't think you can purchase it any longer so pirating /gasp might be your only option.

AoE2 is definitely the best strategy game I've ever played, you can probably download it for free pretty easily or buy it for like 5-10 dollars

for something free, check out 0 A.D., I haven't played it since Alpha C or something, and even then it was pretty nice and showed huge potential. I will probably try it later and see how it is, but that is a really cool project.
