Heavy Duty!I had a dream, of a game...
It was like X-COM, it was dynamic, original, it was unique. Almost perfect.
The action took place on a planet, but there were no loading screens. No separate arena-like environments.
You could see any part of the planet at any time, but the terrain was not what caught your attention. It was the presence. Aliens. They attacked the planet, just like X-COM. But this time, it was all in real time. You dispatched your interceptors and could watch them, as they rallied to the UFO, and shot it down. Hell, you could even take over the controls of the interceptor and try your skills at dogfighting. Then, you dispatched the troop carrier. Well, not just troops. Robots. Big, mechanical, spider-like robots, which moved dynamically across the terrain. A nice step forwards from the tanks in X-COM. The battles were intense, the environment adapted to the action, as bullet holes and explosion craters riddled the very earth you were standing on. Unless you were flying overhead in a jet, providing suppressing fire.Yes, this is a real game. Well, it might have been. As with most things great, there was a problem, only it was so big, it proved to be fatal. The game was developed by Akella (even the fox thing on their logo is starving -_-). Though they made Disciples 2, which was a great game, they failed to make Heavy Duty. There were only showcase builds, which never made it outside of the presentation rooms. And afterwards, the media coverage was just disposed of. Mostly. I remember, that a while back, i had a magazine "Spēļu Pasaule" (game world), which had a nice article with screenshots and stuff, but i threw my collection of those magazines out a while back. I think that the company which made the magazines went bankrupt in 2010 or 11', so no possibility to find those articles online either.
Videos: (this game was first mentioned around 2006-2007, so dont expect graphics like crysis)
