one-liner threads

Postby Defaulter » Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:51 pm

Hey guys, (this is just my OPINION)

Maybe we could introduce a rule that requires at least 3 sentences in a thread OP.

(3 is obviously negotiable i guess)

Or perhaps (and i don't code, so i have no idea how) make the new thread text box only allow 3 sentences as a minimum before posting it.

WHY?

I often find (from extensive experience with forums....[gee that sounded better in my head]) that 1 word or sentence doesn't usually convey enough info to start a decent discussion/debate.

In example:

Thoughts? disagreements? suggestions? thanks.

P.S noo before you accuse me rambo, this is not a personal attack against you, i just happened to be looking for an example, and found that.

My say on this is that it's a good idea, if you can actually think of 3 sentences. If you can get your full point across in one sentence, I'd rather see that than have it padded with excess drivel.

What's the point? If you can explain what you want to discuss in a few word, all power to you. Obviously, if somebody says, "American Idol, Do you watch it?", then it's a thread about American Idol. If a moderator finds a thread pointless, they'll deal with it.

No - and I'll tell you why;
If I only need 1 sentence to say what I want to say then why should I be forced by the rules to pad it out? Am I forced to just copy and paste the same sentence 3 times?
Besides that even if someone does post something without enough info, people can certainly just ask, and I am sure they will respond - or barring that people will at least speculate and discuss - as they always so.

So why do you want to ban it? "It's not enough" Well sometimes it is, and is it a real problem if it isn't? Not every thread is a AAA blockbuster hit, some threads will die. Why is that a big deal? If people want to talk they will...

Geez how I hate pointless rules... People should include plenty of info, but not because there is a rule for it, and sure as hell nothing arbitrary.
